stitchyourselfWelcome to the laboratory, Dr Frankenstitch

You are here to take part in the ultimate stitching + science experiment.

Stitch London has teamed up with London’s Science Museum to create a Stitch Yourself exhibit for the re-opening of their Who Am I? gallery.

See your Stitched Self in the main Energy Hall at the Science Museum Lates on 30 June 2010 from 6.45 to 10pm

You are invited to contribute a tiny Stitched Self and take part in scientific stitching history.

You can send in your contributions from anywhere in the world.

Your Stitching + Creativity = A Stitched Self

We've spent hours in the dank shadows of the Stitch London lab conducting all manner of crafty stitching experiments to produce three 'blank body' patterns.

These are the humble beginnings of your handmade 'Stitched Self'.

You become Dr Frankenstitch!

The idea is that you work your stitching science on your blank body to create a tiny version of you. You're not limited to our patterns though. Feel free to make your own.

There are only three rules:

1. Your Stitched Self must be approx. 6 inches/15 cm tall
2. Your Stitched Self must arrive before the 26th of June 2010
3. You must include your name (you can make a name up if you're shy) and where you are from

Send your Stitched Selves to: Lauren O'Farrell
Stitch London
Courtyard Studio (First floor)
The Old Police Station
114 Amersham Vale
London

The Stitched Selves will be installed for one night only at London's Science Museum Late event on the 30 of June 2010 from 6.45 to 10pm.

Stitch Yourself FAQs

ravelryCan I add my Stitched Self on Ravelry? Click here for the Knit pattern and here for the Crochet pattern

Will I get my Stitched Self back? Due to the large number of submissions we're receiving it would take too much time and money to send them all back. Take a photo and let go. Once they are with us we'll look after them. Promise. Your Stitched Self is going on to do great things.

What will happen to my Stitched Self after the Science Museum? There may be plans for other exhibitions. Or we might make them work in our diamond mines...

Can I felt/crossstitch/pin felt my Stitched Self? Your contribution must be 3D and involve stitching. Cross stitchers can do the simple sewn pattern and go wild with the embroidery.

What if my Stitched Self goes missing in the post? Responsibility for getting your submission to us is all yours. We can't be held responsible if post gremlins eat it. Sorry. :(

Can you let me know my Stitched Self has arrived safely? We can't individually email every sender but keep an eye on the blog. We'll blog every entry. Be patient though. It may take a while.

When can I see my Stitched Self at the Science Museum? The Stitch Yourself display will take place on the 30th of June at the Science Museum's Late event from 6.45 to 10pm.

If I can't make the 30th of June can I see them elsewhere? We're working on showing them at other exhibitions. Sign up to our newsletter for more news.
