When? Meetings take place in central London from 6pm till late. Arrive whenever you like.

Where? To find out where we'll be sign up to our newsletter (the only place we put meeting info).

Here's a list of our current venues and a little information about why we love each one.

camel and choke

Camel & Artichoke

121 Lower Marsh
London
SE1 7AE

Where: Upstairs

Map

Nearest Tube: Waterloo, Lambeth North

Why? Set snugly on Lower Marsh amongst a jumble of shops, bars and eateries that have created a little Londony village of their own, The Camel offers comfy sofas, tasty food, beer on tap and a distinct absence of both camels and artichokes. Free books beg to be taken home from the Book Crossing shelf too. Get there early to bag a sofa and proceed to look smug.

Drink: Beers, wines and spirits galore

Food: Pub grub with a twist of modern

If the venue were cake: A pleasantly stodgy slice of chocolatey goodness

crustingpipe

The Crusting Pipe

Crusting Pipe 27
The Market
Covent Garden
London
WC2E 8RD

Where: Outside the main bar

Map Website

Nearest Tube: Covent Garden, Leicester Square

Why? Proudly placed in the buzzing tourist-steeped heart of London's Covent Garden, The Crusting Pipe is about as Londony as it gets. Relax with your stitching, sip your wine and witness the famous live performances of opera, classical music and occassional brazen show tunes in the courtyard. Singing along has been known to happen. Sorry about that.

Drink: Wine by the glass (bit pricey but very good) and various booze

Food: Bar menu of not-so-cheap food wonders (sneak in a sandwich before you arrive if you're poor)

If the venue were cake: Scarily indulgent rich chocolate torte with raspberry coulis

EV

EV Bakery, Delicatessen and Organic Shop

The Arches 97-99
Isabella Street
London
SE1 8DD

Where: You'll see us

Map Website

Nearest Tube: Southwark, Waterloo

Why? Crouching down a pleasantly green pedestrian street behind Southwark station, the cave that is EV is one of our tastiest and most eccentric venues. Metal frogs play trumpets, mystery groceries from the East line the shelves and the food is cheap, fabulously tasty and plentiful. It's weird and wonderful. We love it.

Drink: Hot drinks, cold drinks and booze

Food: Mezze of all kinds. You will eat here and love it.

If the venue were cake: Sticky slab of Honey and Almond Baklava

leon

Leon

Spitalfields Market
3 Crispin Place
London
E1 6DW

Where: To the right of the entrance

Map Website

Nearest Tube: Liverpool Street

Why? Sitting happily at the edge of the handmade treasure trove of Spitalfield's Market, Leon is a haven of foodie treats that are unexpectedly healthy and wholesome despite tasting fabulous. The decor is funky and the ambience is creative and cool.

Drink: All manner of lovely beverages from fresh lemonade to the awesome Dark and Stormy cocktail

Food: They say the food "Tastes good and does you good". They're right.

If the venue were cake: Perfect Pecan Pie and a scoop of Organic Vanilla Icecream

New Moon

New Moon

Ledenhall Market
88 Gracechurch Street
London
EC3V 0DN

Where: Downstairs

Map Website

Nearest Tube: Bank, Liverpool Street, Monument

Why? Sat regally on the end of London's hugely historic Ledenhall Market (which has been around since the 1400s) this pub is comfy, British and covered in wood and pictures of old London. For those who heart a bit of Hollywood they've filmed James Bond and Tombraider in here and a bit of Harry Potter outside too. Wingardium leviosa!

Drink: It's a pub

Food: Proper pub grub. Excellent pies.

If the venue were cake: A huge steaming bowl of Treacle Pudding

royal festival hall

Royal Festival Hall

South Bank Centre
Belvedere Road
London
SE1 8XX

Where: Level 2 near to the shop

Map Website

Nearest Tube: Waterloo, Embankment

Why? Smack bang on London's South Bank the RFH is our unofficial home. It's bright, welcoming and gives good cake. The perfect place to people watch and celeb spot, catch the buzz of cultural happenings, sip a bit of wine and get your craft on in one of the city's most changable venues. Watch out for people gazing at you knitting in confused awe.

Drink: Bar and cafe

Food: Cafe and you can take out from numerous foodie venues around

If the venue were cake: Swish slice of Lemon and Poppy Seed Cake

stjames

St James Park

62 Stamford Street
London
SE1 9LX

Where: On the grass outside the cafe. Inside if it's raining.

Map

Nearest Tube: Westminster, St James Park, Charring Cross, Embankment

Why? It can't rain all the time and if we can avoid a downpour then heading for the pollen-drenched climes of St James' Park lets us take in some sun while we stitch. Hire a deck chair if you don't fancy bringing a blanket. Watch squirrels and ants don't steal your stitchmarkers. Legend has it a pelican was caught eating a pigeon in this park. Don't eat piegons. You don't know where they've been.

Drink: Bring your own. It's a picnic!

Food: Picnic-style munching is the way forward. Inn the Park serves food too.

If the venue were cake: An ant-covered bit of Battenburg

stamford

Stamford Arms

62 Stamford Street
London
SE1 9LX

Where: Upstairs

Map

Nearest Tube: Waterloo, Southwark, Blackfriars

Why? Within yarn-throwing distance of the Thames and the Oxo Tower, the Stamford Arms is a proper pub's pub with a dartboard and chairs that have been sat in by a thousand pint sippers. The bar staff always seem faintly amused by us but are very lovely. Feel British by ordering a pint and talking about the weather while you're here.

Drink: The usual array of pints and pub stuff

Food: Grub you get in a pub. Not for weightwatchers.

If the venue were cake: A hearty custard-covered apple crumble

If you think your establishment has what it takes to be a Stitch London Stitch Up venue please have a look at the requirements below and if you fit the bill contact us.

Stitch London Stitch Up venue requirements:

  1. Seating and tables for at least 50 people – Yes, we are a stitching group but we're a big one. Seriously.
  2. Close to a tube station – within 5-10 minutes of a central tube station
  3. Good lighting
  4. No loud music – Music is ok but we need to be able to hear each other. We like to talk.
  5. Drink – Knitting is thirsty work.
  6. Food (especially cake) – Food isn't essential but we're a hungry bunch and since we meet after work people need to eat. Our stitchers order and pay seperately.
Please note: If there is no food available the option to bring our own snacks and drinks is preferred.
  7. Knit-friendly staff – Staff who don't mind unexpected rolling balls of yarn, constant laughter and a whirlwind of crafty goodness going on in their venue are greatly appreciated.
